We used to see pileated woodpeckers regularly, but it has been several years since we have had one. This is a dead tree that we meant to have taken down.
I was out at the new raised bed, planting a couple of squash–were it seems my spinach and carrot seeds are not going to come up–again, ugh. And thinning out the new beans, keeping them all just spreading them out some. And I heard a loud knocking on wood, it sounded familiar so I started looking and there he was. I was surprised and thrilled–seems like my ELIM, my oasis in the city really is coming to fruition.
I discovered yesterday that the sprinklers are not getting to the new bed like they did when we placed it, so I have resorted to using city water to supplement since all the babies are so young. Hopefully I won’t have to do that when they are a little bigger and stronger.
I just had to go out and spend a few minutes in my garden, seemed like such a waste of a day off not to get in the dirt a little!
